The most convenient airports to reach Göttingen are Frankfurt am Main and Hannover Airport. Although Frankfurt a. M. is a little further from Göttingen than Hannover, airfares are often cheaper via this route. There are train connections from both airports to Göttingen. First take a train to the respective central station (Hauptbahnhof/Hbf) and from there a connection to Göttingen. There are also direct trains connecting Frankfurt Airport Fernbahnhof (Long distance train station) with Göttingen.
It is also possible to reach Göttingen via flights to Berlin or Hamburg. There are direct trains from Berlin and Hamburg to Göttingen, which take about two to two and a half hours, respectively. For train times and fares check the website of the German Railway (Deutsche Bahn).
If you are interested in a low cost alternative to the Deutsche Bahn rail service, there are many bus companies offering low-cost routes to Göttingen (e.g. Flixbus).
